Some Other Personal Faves

I just thought I'd blog a bit on some other personal favorites I go out to see whenever they are in the area.

Libido Funk Circus is a great band to see whenever they are close by. They have a great song selection and a very good show with a lot of energy. They've obviously been doing this act for quite a while and are constantly gigging ... hence, the very good show. Great vocals and very good players. Great song selection which includes a huge range of different styles.

One band that seems to have gone through a change lately is Alex and the Allstars. They were a very entertaining band when they had the venerable Dave on guitar and Sandi as a vocalist but I have to say, they are just as fun to watch without Sandi and Dave and the addition of their new member on guitar. This band puts the F-U in FUN. Alex is a good drummer and a very good singer and just a plain nice person. I swear Buddy W, who was always GREAT on guitar, gets better and better every time I hear this group. Buddy goes back a ways with One Armed Bandit, the Poppin' Mollies and the Snake Stretchers. The new guy, Patrick, is a blast and a fun and enthusiastic singer. The Only Sons is another very good band. On the down side, they use a lot of lap top computer backing music. The audience neither cares or knows so I suppose it really doesn't matter. However, there was a song where they had a bass line playing on the lap top and the bass player wasn't playing bass or anything else and was just singing. I think that is a little weird. The other downer which can also be considered an upper, is the song selection. The song selection contains all of the songs everyone else plays that are guaranteed get-them-dancing songs. This is good because ... well ... it gets them dancing ... which is why there's a band there in the first place. That is what gets them re-booked. However, I personally just get tired of every band doing Sweet Home Alabama and Jack and Diane, etc, etc. On the good side, they do a real good job with these songs and the crowd loves them. They are a fun band and it's always fun when everyone around you is having a great time. So, over all, this is a good thing.
