Wedding Banned - Duke O'Brien's 4.27.07

This is the third time I've seen Wedding Banned .... and it will be my last. If you enjoy hearing rampant profanity coming from your entertainment for 3 to 4 hours, I guess then this is the band for you. They do all of the formula songs (the same songs that most other bands do). They do them well but ... they still do them. The musicianship is good. It really is. The lead singer is not that great a singer however, he is animated and a great front guy and really insists on the audience whipping themselves into a frenzy. That's not hard to do at 11:30 at night after each person in your audience has consumed 5 Jager-Bombs, 3 shots of tequila and 10 or 12 beers. That's probably why the audience may not even know they are being sworn at. It's like being at a Sopranos bachelor party!

As for myself, they bore me now. Each of the three times I saw them was like deja vu. They do the same show (as far as I've seen) each night and I really don't see why some bands insist on the relentless profanity. It's just a bunch of shit. Go see them once and you'll have seen them 30 times.

It took you 3 times to come to this conclusion?

I don't think the people that drink those jager-bombs and tequila shots are going to listen to Christian music...Anyone that likes to have a good time would go and see them. KUDOS TO WEDDING BANNED!!

"The lead singer is not that great a singer"
Ow, that stings.
So - I had Steve Perry (yes, that Steve Perry) critique the videotape from that night, and he stated that my pitch was dead-on, my tone was perfect, and that it reminded him of one of his best performances - Houston 1983. He said he couldn't believe how I could jump between songs like "Take On Me" to "Under Pressure" to "Livin' on a Prayer" with such ease. He then fellated me.
Point taken on the cursing, believe it or not, I do try to control it........but I guess you're just prejudiced against people with Tourette's Syndrome, which I honestly have. I just chose to turn something that people held against me for years into something positive, only to have you hold it against me once again. Do you push over people in wheelchairs too?
Shame, shame, shame. However, I still love you and look forward to seeing you at future shows!

I love Wedding Banned. They always put on a great show. Of course they play a lot of the formula songs, they are a cover band, but I never heard them play the same show twice,(Ok, the opening music was 'Eye of the Tiger,' both shows, but that was cool.) Isn't that why I see a cover band, to hear songs I know? They are a little crazy, but if I want a regular, no craziness cover band, I'd go to see someone else.

Don't get me wrong, Captain. You do a great job up there and I could never be the same kind of a front man that you are. The band is obviously very sucessful and the band has got a great (for lack of a better word) gimmick. However, the profanity thing is just an issue of mine and after all ... it's just an opinion. I'm glad this blog has generated some feedback! You know you're not going to have any lack of Jager-Bomb swilling 20-somethings at all of your future shows. After all, that is what it's all about anyway, isn't it?
