I forgot to add this sighting. I had been up in Lake Geneva a few weeks ago and had heard about Hemmingway's Port of Call Restaurant which contains the South of Disorder Bar. You parrotheads immediately know what that means. This is a Jimmy Buffett bar. Brand new. Way off the beaten track. Certainly a destination bar ... not a happen-into bar like most of them in Lake Geneva on the "strip".
I stopped for a few beers to check it out and a guy named Erik Pietsch was playing there. He says his friends call him the Whaleshark. Maybe he just called himself the Whaleshark and other people said, "OK. We'll call you that."
He is a single acoustic guitarist and singer. He does some cover stuff and many songs he authored himself. He has a CD or two out as well. He's performing in an old T-shirt and a beat-up cowboy hat. He has a pleasant voice and plays guitar pretty good.
I was bored. He would sing a song and then stop and tell a story about Hawaii or some other place and then sing another song and stop and tell another story and .... so on. It was hard for me to grasp how he makes a meaningful living unless he has a trust fund in the background.
He was good ... just not entertaining. Way too laid-back for me. http://www.thewhaleshark.com/
The bar was OK but I do not know how it will make it through the winter times as , 1) not everyone likes Buffett music, 2) it's hard to find and off the beaten path and 3) they are having some what I know to be are some high-priced acts in there. I know they're having some straight ahead rock stuff in there as well. I hope they grow and prosper.
