The Pirates Over 40 band consists of some local talent and right there, I applaud the Lakeside Fest group. I certainly think they should have more local talent. Somebody should. Back to the Pirates. This is a good Jimmy Buffett style tribute band with some good performing, good singing and they are well-rehearsed. Actually, I like these guys better than Od Tapo Imi which played last year. I think Pirates played last year, too and Od Tapo Imi did the Gala part. Well, anyway.
Anyway I like these guys. I'm not a huge Buffett kind-of-guy but the only thing that bothers me a bit is what I call "70s rock vibrato". It just brings back memories of the Flat As A Pancake album (Head East) and Three Dog Night. It's kind of an older-style vocal but that's just me. I'm definitely being a little too nit-picky. The song selection is good. The arrangements were for the most part good and they were obviously a notch or three above the usual fare. If you like Buffett stuff, these are the better guys in the area so see them .. if they ever actually play in the area. I can see by their MySpace listing they are playing everywhere but around here. They are a bit of a large band to fit in most places. However, that's an affliction most area bands have. Check 'em out!
