I decided to take the wife to this new Dells-style resort - slash - monster indoor water park in Gurnee to check it out and I see that a guy who's a friend on my MySpace site is playing there. He turns out to be Gregory B, a Jimmy Buffett tribute single act out of Crystal Lake. We had to sit down and order a couple margaritas and see what happens.
He's all right. He's very good at what he does. He's a strummer on guitar but he has a good voice and is very personable with the crowd. He genuinely looks like he's having a great time on stage and that's as important as your virtuosity (or lack of it) or your song selection. Gregory B couldn't have had a better song selection for a tropical-themed margarita grill (The Crazy Toucan). His web site states that he records all his own backing music and I believe him. They are very good tracks and he really does sound like an entire band. He even does his own vocal harmonies.
All in all, I'm very glad I had a chance to see him, albeit due to a weird coincidence and if you're in the mood for tropical music and Jimmy Buffett material, this is real fun stuff. Oh .... check out Key Lime Cove. It's a really cool place.
