Maggie Speaks - CL Gala 7.3.08

I didn't get to see as many bands at the Gala this year as I wanted but I did get a chance to see three groups. One was Maggie Speaks. I've wanted to see them for a while now. They're a very well-rehearsed pro band and they did one hell of a lot of 80s music and some of the cookie-cutter songs.

I remember a conversation I had with a friend back in the 80s and we had both agreed that the 70s had some great music but the 80s was a total waste of time and nobody will remember anything about the 80s. Man, was I wrong. There was some almost criminally bad stuff being played in the 80s and it's become very camp to play it now. So Maggie Speaks did drag back some memories and played the songs well. Again, my only complaint is that there's a guitar player, a bass player, a lead singer and a drummer in the band yet I hear full brass and keyboard sections. I just have a bit of a problem with the concept of playing along with tracks when you actually are a band but you know ... nobody seems to notice and absolutely nobody seems to care. So, enough said on that.

Well anyway, Maggie Speaks was a very good band and they got people moving on this slightly slower night at the Gala. http://www.maggiespeaks.com/web_v16/index.php
