Me and my Bobby Benz

Why is it that any woman who has any vocal ability at all can sing Me and Bobby McGee or Mercedes-Benz? What's a more relevant question is, why is it that they insist on singing one of these two songs? As much as I think Janice Joplin was and still is a great vocalist, I almost curse the day when she decided to do a song a cappella. This means that even if your band doesn't know the lyrics or the music, this is no excuse as far as the woman (or her boyfriend) is concerned for you not letting her get up and sing the damned song. It may actually be the only song any women even want to sing. It seems to be a universal song for aspiring female vocalists crossing religion, race and nationality. It may even be a great thing for a bar somewhere to have a Bobby McGee/Mercedes-Benz "song-off" where women in various towns can compete for who can really actually sing the song the best .... or the worst. I feel confident in saying that if it's the boyfriend who comes up and asks you if his girlfriend can come up to sing one of these songs, chances are 98% that she will suck. If it's another girlfriend that makes the request, she may even suck more. That's why there should be contests held at every karaoke night in every town to nominate the best and the worst female vocalists so as to create a distraction for them and hopefully, get them to see how much they really do suck so they and their friends stopping asking musicians to come up and take the stage. That's it. I've said it. It's off my chest. Damn you,Pearl.
